Did Falcon and the Winter Soldier create an even bigger Sharon Carter twist?

After six exciting weeks,The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has finished its run. Like most things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has completed its narrative while leaving plenty of threads hanging around for future plans. One particularly interesting character after the finale is Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter. To say the least, her character is drastically reshaped by the events of the series and she believes she will be a big part of the MCU going forward. But did the series prepare Carter for an even bigger twist down the line?

What happened with Sharon Carter in The Falcon And the Winter Soldier?

Warning: SPOILERS coming for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Proceed with caution. The Sharon Carter we catch up with on the show isn’t the same Sharon Carter we ended up with in Captain America: Civil War. As a result of her participation in the events of this film, she became a criminal and a fugitive. No longer authorized in the United States, Carter began operating in the dark underworld of Madripoor. She’s no longer Peggy Carter’s buttoned-up niece. He is a toughened and shady person who has grown fierce and connected to big criminals.

Additionally, the finale confirmed a popular theory, with Sharon Carter turning out to be the so-called Power Broker. But Sharon helped Sam, who took on the role of our new Captain America, and Bucky stop the Flag Smashers. She also took a bullet for her problem. To say the least, it has become a complicated situation.

Sharon’s Grand Tour in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier scene

Things got even more twisty in the show’s big post-credits scene. Because, at first glance, it appeared that Sharon Carter had played a significant role in stopping the Flag Smashers, the US government offered her a full pardon. In fact, she played a huge role in creating the whole mess. In addition, Carter was reinstated in the CIA. During her audition, Carter expressed her gratitude and it looked like everything was fine.

But then, as she leaves the building, we have a flash of an evil smile straight to the camera. Newly reinstated Agent Carter then picks up the phone, speaking to an unknown criminal on the other end of the line. She asks that they “start lining up our buyers” as they now have access to arms and other government goods. Sharon Carter is completely evil now. Or is she? This brings us to the question of the possibility of a bigger twist to come.

Is Sharon Carter a Skrull?

The Skrulls, the shapeshifted alien race who can disguise themselves as anyone introduced in Captain Marvel, are not yet complete in the MCU. A Secret invasion series is in the works for Disney +. We already know that Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos is back. The Skrulls were a big part of the comics and they are expected to be a big part of the series. With Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury at the center of Secret invasion, it might make sense for Sharon Carter to appear on the show as well. With that, the question must be asked; Is Sharon Carter Secretly A Skrull?

Yes, it makes sense that Sharon Carter was ousted by the United States for her crimes. But it also seems possible that his superhero pals could have helped him in some way. Not to mention the fact that the Sharon Carter we knew couldn’t go that far the other way. We’re talking about Peggy Carter’s niece. If this has been revealed down the line, maybe in Secret invasion, or even Captain Marvel 2, that Carter was indeed a Skrull during the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, that would explain a lot.

Of course, this raises other questions. Where is the real Sharon Carter? Who could this Skrull talk to on the phone? What is this Skrull endgame? For now, we have more questions than answers. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is now available on the Disney + streaming app.
