Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele brought in Keke Palmer to star in his third film. After achieving critical acclaim Get out and We, Peele is working on bringing his next vision for a feature film to life with a new lead star. While no details have yet been revealed on the character she will play, Deadline reports that Palmer is set to star in the untitled Jordan Peele movie which has already been given a release date for next summer by Universal Pictures.
At the moment, not much else is known about the film beyond Keke Palmer land a leading role. Plot details are tightly locked up and not until the title has even been revealed. What we do know is that Peele is going to write and direct the film, just like he did with his previous films. He will also be producing alongside his partner Ian Cooper under their Monkeypaw Productions banner as part of the company’s five-year deal with Universal.
It will be one of Palmer’s biggest roles to date. After breaking into the sequel scene Barbershop 2: back to business, Palmer was widely praised for her lead role in Akeelah and the bee. She has since appeared in films like Madea’s family reunion, Cries of joy, Animal, and Hustlers. Palmer also voices Aisha in the Nickelodeon series Winx Club and appeared in horror shows Scream queens and the Yell TV series. She also received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination as a co-host of Strahan, Sara and Keke.
In 2017, Peele released her first film via Monkeypaw and Universal. Written, directed and produced by Peele, Get out was a box office success that garnered universal critical acclaim. The single horror film starred Daniel Kaluuya as a young black man who discovers the disturbing secret of his white girlfriend when he visits his family. The film was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and managed to clinch Peele’s victory for Best Original Screenplay. He may have started his career as a comedian, but Get out instantly established Peele as one of today’s top filmmakers.
Two years later, Peele followed Get out by releasing his next feature film, We, in theaters. Starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, the film follows a family targeted by a group of menacing lookalikes. Like Get out, We was a huge success, attracting a lot of money in ticket sales around the world with very strong reviews. Two consecutive big hits will get a lot of attention on Peele’s next project with Palmer, but it turns out to be.
Outside the director’s chair, the former Crazy TV and Key and Peele comedian also worked as a producer. He helped develop a reboot of The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access which also sees him as the show’s host. Peele also served as a producer on the upcoming Candyman reboot of director Nia Da Costa as well as the HBO series Lovecraft Country by writer Misha Green.
Universal Pictures will release Peele’s film starring Palmer on July 22, 2022. This news comes from Deadline.
