When Saw X was released in theaters last September, the film became a huge hit with fans, critics and at the box office. The audience felt the same and it showed at the box office. This was sure to spark a sequel and it happened with Saw XI being announced shortly after the success of Saw X. The film is set to debut in theaters on September 27 from this year. Although not much is known about this film, an interview with one of the producers sheds some light on what it might be about.
In an interview with GamesRadar’s SFX Magazine, producer Oren Koules was asked about the development of Saw XI. He said, “Cecilia is still alive and Tobin and Shawnee are still in a foreign country. So for me it would be the natural place to at least get the next one.” This seems to confirm that the film will be a direct sequel to the tenth installment. The film is still in the early stages of development, so it is subject to change at any time.
Saw X was the first in the franchise to be certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 80% for critics and 89% for audiences. The film earned $111.8 million on a $13 million budget. The Saw franchise is the fifth highest-grossing horror franchise with a total of ten films released to date. In total, the franchise has earned over $1.1 billion at the global box office.
Saw X followed the story of “John Kramer who travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure, only to discover that the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer uses baffling and ingenious traps to turn the tables on the crooks.”
This is exciting news and helps shed light on the story that the sequel will follow. Are you excited that it follows the story of the previous film or were you hoping it would continue a different story? Let us know in the comments below. Also, check out the official trailer for Saw X below.
