Well, before people really stopped to think about whether they really loved or really hated David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, he had already been licensed to bring us a trilogy of Exorcist movies. So here we are! The first in Green’s upcoming possession trilogy is titled, The Exorcist: Faithful.
Believer begins the possession trilogy at Blumhouse. It also brings back Chris McNeil played by the wonderful Ellen Burstyn. Burtyn’s character is here to lend a hand to Leslie Odom Jr’s child, who has recently become possessed by Pazuzu. It happens to be the same demon that possessed Regan in the first one Exorcist movie. Green is likely to lean heavily on the original film and give us a lot of nostalgia. For everything from the first movie.

Gordon Green is directing his new sequel the Exorcist for Universal, Blumhouse and Morgan Creek, which will pave the way for a new trilogy. The first film in the trilogy will be released in cinemas on October 13, 2023with Leslie Odom Jr. playing along Ellen Burstynwho will reprise his role as Chris MacNeil from the original 1973 film.
The first plot details we were given last year teased, “Odom Jr. will play the father of a possessed child. Desperate for help, he finds the character of Mrs. Burstyn.”
Synopsis for the Exorcist it went like this:
One of the most profitable horror films ever made, this tale of an exorcism is loosely based on actual events. When young Regan (Linda Blair) starts behaving strangely – levitating, speaking in tongues – her worried mother (Ellen Burstyn) seeks medical help, only to hit a dead end. A local priest (Jason Miller), however, believes that the girl may be possessed by the devil. The priest makes a request to perform an exorcism, and the church sends an expert (Max von Sydow) to help with the difficult task.
