Vin Diesel’s fan favorite character, Riddick has existed ever since Pitch dark took the audience by surprise. The movie has started Riddick franchise that spawned two additional films based in the same universe. Now, Vin Diesel returns as Riddick with director and co-writer David Twohy returning to the universe they created decades ago to show us what Riddick’s home planet looks like.
‘Riddick: Furya’sThe synopsis breaks down according to Deadline:
“Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and fears may be left in ruins by the Necromongers. But there he finds other Furians fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of these Furians are more like Riddick than they could ever imagine.”
“Our legion of fans have been asking for this for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call to action with Riddick: Furya,” said director Twhoy. “My collaboration with Vin and One Race spanned 20 fruitful years as together we created three films, two video games, an anime production and web comics. This new big screen event will result in a return to Riddick’s homeworld where we can finally explore Riddick’s genesis.”
Pitch dark it all started with a synopsis that was heavily inspired by Ridley Scott’s Alien. The summary of the original chapter was as follows:
A deep space transporter lands on a desert planet surrounded by three suns. The survivors include pilot Carolyn Fry, mystic Abu `Imam’ al-Walid, policeman William J Johns and convicted murderer Richard B Riddick, and their first thoughts are survival and escape. Then Fry learns that the planet undergoes a total eclipse every 22 years, when the hibernating, flesh-eating inhabitants awaken and hunt.
The wildly popular series has also spawned an anime feature, a video game, and comics.
