David Cronenberg’s latest release brings back body horror in ‘The Shrouds’

Blackening brings some elements of blaxploitation with him during the Juneteenth Celebration. Not too shabby at all. The film earned $1 million on Thursday alone and then started to push that over the weekend.

The end result was an impressive $7 million made in a fairly short amount of time. Surely, Lionsgate is happy with what the slasher managed to scare.

Synopsis for Blackening it goes like this:
The Blackening centers around a group of black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize that this is no damn game. Directed by Tim Story (Ride Along, Think Like A Man, Barbershop) and written and story by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip, Harlem) and Dewayne Perkins (The Amber Ruffin Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), The Blackening weaves together genre tropes and asks the sardonic question: If the entire cast of a horror film is Black, who dies first?

The film stars Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, X Mayo, Dewayne Perkins, Antoinette Robertson, Sinqua Walls, with Jay Pharoah and Yvonne Orji.

Blackening it’s in theaters now!
