Often with our beloved films, we talk about our favorite actor, actress, writer or director, leaving aside the role of a cinematographer, also known as a director of photography (DP). Fletcher Wolfe was the director of photography on the new film set to be released on June 2, 2023, I am my love.
Fletcher’s role was crucial in the making of this film, as she was responsible for the artistic and technical decisions related to the visual aspects of the finished product.
Cinematography is essential in films because it enhances visual storytelling, sets tone and atmosphere, creates visual aesthetics, communicates information and emotion, enhances the narrative, and immerses the audience in the world of the film.
It is an art form that combines technical expertise with creative choices to bring stories to life visually. Outstanding cinematography in I am my love beautifully captured the landscapes and forests in this film.
“As a director and producer, my biggest achievement was bringing the collaborators I made for this film and it looks the way it does because of my collaboration with Fletcher Wolfe, my cinematographer… I think she’s one of the greatest alive. cinematographers right now and I knew she was the one to work with and I think this film shows why she was the one to work with.” – Cory Choy, director.
This interview would mark the first time I can remember interviewing a solo cinematographer for any project, which was quite rewarding. Fletcher talks about her background in cinema and others that have inspired her to continue her work over the years. A movie her sister introduced her to in high school was a Tod Haynes movie Velvet gold mine (1998), which was very influential.
Fletcher has worked as an electrician and gaffer on commercials, music videos and documentaries, using the shorter projects to help build networks and serve as a stepping stone for larger and longer projects.
Be sure to check out our interview with Fletcher! We hope you enjoy and of course don’t forget to like and subscribe.
