Looks like Zach Galligan will be back Gremlins again! Although, this time it won’t be the Billy we’re used to. Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai is an all-new animated series that will air on HBO Max. It will tell the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing became acquainted with Gizmo back in the 1920s.
“I can’t say too much, but because it’s 1920s China, I’m not playing Billy because he wasn’t around,” Galligan said at SDCC. “So I play this cool character. It was really fun and amazing to work with a new one group of creative people taking a fresh look at the franchise and expanding the mythology — who knows what they’ll add. Maybe they will add a new transformation or new rule that we don’t know about yet… I think Gremlins the fans will eat it up.”
Description of the series of Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai provided by Deadline goes like this:
“Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai travels back to 1920s Shanghai to reveal the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future store owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 film) met the young Mogwai named Gizmo. In their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
