That’s what we like to see. As one of the most beloved animated films of all time, the nightmare Before Christmas celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. You can walk into any store and always find something themed from the movie. To add to that list, Dynamite Entertainment has announced that it has picked up the license for Tim Burton’s the nightmare Before Christmas.
This comic series is written by Torunn Grønbekk, who has written several successful comics for Marvel, such as Darth Vader: Black, White and Red, Venom, Thor, Red Sonjay, and more. It is expected to be released sometime in 2024. While we don’t have much information about this project, we should hear something this week at San Diego Comic-Con as they have 2 panels scheduled.
First released on October 13, 1993, this stop-motion animated film from the mind of Tim Burton was a hit in theaters and has now become a major cult classic. It was praised for the amazing stop-motion animation, amazing soundtrack and how great the story was. The film grossed a total of $91.5 million on its $18 million budget in several re-releases over the past 27 years.
The film’s story “follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, the beloved Pumpkin King of Halloween town, who has grown bored of the same annual routine of scaring people in the ‘real world.’ When Jack accidentally stumbles into Christmas Town, with all its bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life – he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over. But Jack soon discovers that even the best laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go terribly wrong.”
While many fans have been eager for a sequel or some type of spin-off to happen, nothing has been announced or happened yet. A book called Long Live the Pumpkin Queen was released last year, which follows Sally’s story and is right after the events of the movie. If there were to be a sequel or spin-off film, it would have to be in the beloved stop-motion animation that made the first film famous.
Other things that have been announced this year for the film’s 30th anniversary are a 13-foot-tall Jack Skellington at Home Depot, a new Hot Topic collection, a new Funko Pop line from Funko, and a new 4K Blu-ray edition of the film.
